Title: Laptev’s Dance
Vinyl: Sold Out
Description: The debut by underground percussionist Matt Pittori, under his My Winter Defence guise, ‘Laptev's Dance’ sees Matt emerging from beneath the wreckage of Minus Pilots to investigate a darker, more electronic sonic theme. During a recent concert in his home city of London, Matt revealed a confident foray into quiet, fragile and harmonic material while fusing dynamic and percussive elements. Sharing the title of the overall release is opener, ‘Laptev’s Dance’; it’s dense, prickly atmospherics are dark with treated effects and fleeting sections of melody rising up throughout. Bold contemplations are shrouded in hazy analogue synth washes, decaying beats and spectral reverbs. Very good. ‘Punctured Northern Skies’ is next and features panoramic pulse elements with deep, dark bass drones. It’s filled with epic, wistful tones, otherworldly and elaborate experiments of disconnected fragments and textures. Two sublime soundtrack pieces and a real work of art, you know what must be done.
